There's just no substitute for the smell of a farm... Mmmm... Close your eyes, can you smell it? Actually, this farm smelled pretty good, and the alpacas were pretty fun to feed and pet. We learned alot about alpacas today... their fleece, registering them, when they came to the states... it was a very cool field trip!

After being in the body repair shop for over a month, it's nice to have the old Subaru back home with a nice new shiny paint job, and no sign of having colliding with a bicyclist! The guys at "A Master Touch" in Portland did a fantastic job. Now I'm on the hunt for a set of wheels and tires from a Subaru WRX... as nice as the car looks, the wheels and tires sure look old and tired.

This past Saturday, Shauna and I got to spend the day with our friends Kevin and Kristi who drove up for the day from Boise! We drove down to Eugene for the Ducks vs. Broncos game. We were all decked out in our Boise State attire and we were pleasantly surprised at how welcoming the Ducks were to us Broncos... even AFTER WE BEAT THEM!

Upon returning home from being gone for 12 hours, we were welcomed with this cake tribute to the Boise State win from our daughter Krista. What a great kid!

Lee Schafer

Yesterday morning, my good friend Lee Schafer suffered a heart attack that eventually took his life today around 10:30am. Lee started out as my boss giving me my first job in radio. He was the one who took a chance on a 16 year old kid who was anxious to get into the business. He was a careful business man and had a heart for God and spreading the Word through broadcasting. We had many days filled with laughter and the occasional Chicago Connection Pizza. One of my favorite memories was when the station's program director prank called Lee from down the hall... when Lee realized the goofball calling him was just down the hall, he RAN down the hall and literally climbed over the PD's desk to take him down. That same PD had water poured on the front of his pants in retaliation by Lee while he was laying on his back to fix some wiring under the counter in the control room. Lee's sense of humor was awesome, and his heart for God and service to the church even more so. I can't imagine KSPD and KBXL without Lee there, but I know God wouldn't have called him home if the operation wasn't in great hands... the rest of his family.

I will miss you, Lee... but I rest in the promise that we will see each other again. Being in heaven with Jesus is better by far.

Wow... I can't say enough about the guys at "A Master Touch" Autobody and Paint in Portland! I stopped in this morning just to see if they were closer to getting it painted, and found THIS!

All painted up... all the dings GONE, and all that's left is a little wet sanding and a full buffing. Thanks Kelly and Willie! Job well done!

Well, it's official... Krista is now 15! You know your kids must be getting older when friends are blown away to hear your oldest is 15. Wait a minute... that actually makes ME feel older! :-)

She had been wanting Benny & June on DVD especially since I guess I deleted the movie off the DVR at home. Oops

Grandpa Adams made good use of his spare time inbetween his bus travels the past number of months. He made this sweet latch-hook picture of dogs for the dog-loving Krista.

Okay, so many years ago (in the early 1980's) I invented the whole "Gift Bag" craze. Really! I did! Instead of finding boxes, tape, wrapping paper and wrapping the gift, I'd simply leave the gift in the bag it came in from the store. Now they actually SELL these little "Gift Bags". I'll admit, they're a little nicer now than the brown sacks I'd get at Osco Drug... but mine got the job done. Now, I'm starting a new craze... stick the gift in the trunk of the car! The only catch with this is --> you DON'T get to keep the car! Here Krista is discovering the matching night stand for her room that she'd had her eye on in the IKEA catalog. Sure is nice having our own IKEA store in town!

Yup, I finally decided to give the old blog a new coat of paint. I have many pics to post as we've had many more birthday celebrations, but our main computer at home (where we store all our images) took nose dive. A friend of ours has it and I guess if having to reload Windows. Oh Joy. He said we won't lose any files and I pray we don't. It's a wake up call to me to get an external hard drive and back everything up on a regular basis!

Krista and I have enjoyed keeping track of the progress on our Subaru that's being restored at "A Master Touch" Autobody and Paint. Today it's about done with the primer. There's just a few spots that need to be sanded down and she'll be ready for the paint booth and it will begin to look MUCH better...

Here's the latest on the Subaru's progress. If you're in the Portland area and need ANY kind of bodywork on your car... see "A Master Touch". They also did the restoration of my 1978 Corvette a few years ago. I was SHOCKED to see what they're doing to the Subaru. What was supposed to be a simple repair job (from the accident with the cyclist) and painting of the car has turned into a full restoration of the car! They said, "We just wanted it to be RIGHT..."

It will look as nice as the day we drove it home from Tom Scott Subaru in 1992!

Gone are all the parking lot dings and scratches from the past 17 years!

Hmmm... darn, I'm just going to have to get some custom wheels and tires for it, aren't I!!!

The commute HOME tonight was a mess... something about some big concert in St. Helens, and an earlier traffic accident that snarled traffic for hours afterwards.

But I gotta say, I do have some of the most beautiful scenery to look at even when I'm going nowhere! Thankfully, there was still dinner waiting AND it was still warm! Thanks Shauna...

It Takes A Lickin'... But Will Keep On Tickin'!!!

As noted in an earier post, I broadsided a bicyclist at 40MPH a couple weeks ago when he rode his bike into my path. Thankfully, he's recovering well. I last spoke to him a week or so ago and he's still got some ankle pain... but he bought himself a new bike and a new helmet (after his last helmet broke when it hit my car) and he's back riding again.

So the Subie is in the shop now having the roof and front end repaired. The guys working on the car are simply amazed that the person whose body smashed into the car wasn't more seriously hurt. I guess I had enough angels riding with me that afternoon that a few got out in front of me to help him too.

Just as the battery inside says... this car is a die hard. When Krista gets this car one day, I'll have to find another Subaru. These tough little cars just run forever!

Jason and I got the Miata's out yesterday for our first "Show & Shine" event at church. There were old Chevy's, Ford's, Pontiac's, and some newer high performance rides like Mini's, Audi's, and this row of Miata's! Mine is the BLUE one and Jason's is the BLACK one (click on the pictures to enlarge). I was up till after midnight Thursday and Friday night preparing the car... oh that reminds me, I need to clean up the workbench! Shauna and the girls even showed up later on to take it in and have a hamburger with us!

This 1969 Chevy Camaro SS/RS put a big grin on my face!

Its a good thing I don't own a Cobra like this... I'd be purchasing new tires with every other tank of gas!

I was involved in car vs. bicycle accident this week... had it not been for the fact that the man on the bike was wearing his helmet, the result may have been much worse. He was able to walk away from the accident. He was riding in a bike lane when he suddenly and without warning turned to the left into my lane leaving me nowhere to go and no time to react. I can't put into words the horror of hitting someone and watching them fly up your hood and on to your windshield. The sight and the sound is still so fresh in my mind. We thank God he is alright. My beloved little Subaru is just a hunk of metal that is replaceable... a human life is not. So if you ride... wear your helmet, and always look for cars, and then look again.

Has it already been a week? 4th of July has come and gone and I'm trying to catch up on the blog with the latest shots of what we've been up too. We live in a small community of 6,000 people and that can bring a fun small town atmosphere. 4th of July is always fun as the children get to have a parade. It reminds me a little of the 4th of July's we'd have in Glen Ellyn, Illinois when all the kids got to ride their bikes in the parade. This parade is 95% kids... just riding their bikes, along with some of the towns emergency vehicles.

The Story of "IBDAVE"

Way back when in 1985, I was up late watching my favorite late night show, "Late Night With David Letterman"

He was doing his show from California and was talking about how many people in Cali had personalized license plates. So he assembled a bunch of Californians with their cars and their licenese plates for an interview. The only one I can remember was a "not-so-sexy" old woman who drove a 1975 Mercury with the plate that said "IBSEXY" !!! I laughed out loud because she really was a far cry from what her plate described. But at that moment, I thought "IBDAVE" would be a fun plate to have on my car when I had my own wheels. That dream came true when dad gifted me the old 1966 Datsun Pick-Up I'd been driving as a graduation gift. I went right out to the Idaho DMV and got the plate I wanted!

Funny thing, the guy at the Idaho DMV was named Dave, and he thought my plate was unique enough to photocopy and display at DMV as the first "IB" plate. Now, some 23 years later, "IBDAVE" is still on my car and I just can't let it go. I don't know why... I probably need a 12-step program to be able to go back to a generic plate.

It's hard to believe that I haven't seen this pal of mine for 10 years!!! Jay was a best friend in high school, a groomsman in my wedding, and is today a lifelong friend. Thursday we had the honor of having him stay the night as he made a quick stop on a road trip. It's amazing the memories that flood back in when you and a friend start laughing about "the old days" yet. Fun as it is to reminisce about the old days, I think we both agree its alot better to be where we are today!

Tonight my heart is broken for Steven Curtis Chapman and his family... Tonight they lost their youngest daughter in a tragic accident in the driveway of their home. Below is the official press release I was sent. Steven is an incredibly loving man and has done so much to help others adopt children. Little 5 year old Maria was one of the precious girls they adopted from China.

NASHVILLE, TN...5/21/08... At approximately 5pm on the afternoon of Wednesday May 21st, Maria Sue Chapman, 5 years old and the youngest daughter to Steven and Mary Beth Chapman was struck in the driveway of the Chapman home in Franklin, TN. Maria was rushed to Vanderbilt Childrens Hospital in Nashville, transported by LifeFlight, but died of her injuries there. Maria is one of the close knit family’s six children and one of their three adopted daughters.

More than five years ago, Chapman and his wife Mary Beth founded The Shaohannah’s Hope Ministry after bringing their first adopted daughter, Shaohannah, home from China. The ministry’s goal is to help families reduce the financial barrier of adoption, and has provided grants to over 1700 families wishing to adopt orphans from around the world. I can still remember the day that Mom told me I was going to have another brother or sister. I was standing in the doorway to the kitchen. I thought that was so funny, I walked down the hall to the family room telling Mom how funny she was. I mean really... Mom was DONE having kids, right? C'mon, I was 14! Then I walked back to the kitchen... "Are you really serious?" I asked. Yup, she was. That was 26 years and about 9 months ago. What seemed crazy 26 years ago is nothing but a gigantic blessing today... my sister Elizabeth. I'm thankful to have had the opportunity to have a baby sister in my teen years, a little sister to babysit my own daughter later in life, and today - a friend to laugh with and enjoy spending time with. I remember as a kid asking my parents, "Who INVENTED Rock & Roll?" Their answer, "Well I guess that would have had to be Elvis."

Saturday night I had the pleasure of going to RCA's Studio B. Elvis Presley Recorded MANY of his songs here during his time with RCA Records including "Its Now Or Never", "Are You Lonesome Tonight" and others. It was a pretty awesome feeling as I stood in the exact place in the studio where "The King" stood to record his music. He is still such an icon, still selling records, merchandise and more. It was a pretty cool thing imagining him walking through halls and standing in front of that mic!

Okay, so Elvis wasn't the ONLY one to record there... Dolly Parton recorded "I Will Always Love You" here... Charlie Pride recorded "Kiss An Angel Good Morning" here... The Everly Brothers, Waylon Jennings, Ronnie Milsap, Willie Nelson, Roy Orbison, Charlie Pride and many more all recorded music here. Over 1,000 songs that were recorded here made it to the TOP 10 on the music charts. This place certainly has some magic.

It opened in November of 1957 and ceased to be an active recording studio in 1977. Now it's a place to tour and where students go to learn as they pursue a career in music recording.

Megan's birthday party finally happened a week after her birthday. And here I am finally posting pics from it almost a week after THAT! The girls took control of our coffee house and had a blast playing all the standard birthday party games. The highlight was listening to them sing long to their favorite High School Musical songs. That was the theme. After the party I found myself singing or at least humming the songs. Pretty catchy little tunes.

Megan was thrilled to increase her "Webkins" population from opening her gifts. I think she got 3 of them, and no duplicates! She was thrilled.

This really... truly... absolutely is my FAVORITE time of the year. But that first mowing is something I really DON'T look forward to. Living in Oregon for the past 8 years has been an education on yard maintainence. I'm a man who LOVES a nice thick, weed free, and green lawn. But here, we get so much rain we regularly find standing water in our yard. So the first mowing is like mud bogging. Oh, and you also have to find a weekend with a big enough window to mow in between the rain showers. Today, the lawn got mowed. It was sunny at the beginning, rained part way through, and then the sun came out again. Typical Oregon. Lawn mowing accomplished... and Shauna rejoices.

Time Stands Still

When I was much younger I was interested in photography (just in case the radio thing didn't work out) so I love my new camera that I bought last year. I hardly grab my old Pentax K1000 anymore... my trusty tried and true 100% manual 35mm workhorse I've had since my sophomore year at Meridian High School. There's something awesome about being able to instantly see if you've shot a decent picture with the new digital format. If its bad, no biggie... just delete it and try again till you get the shot you want.

Last Summer we vacationed in Boise. We usually make a trip there every year. While we were there, I took my new digital camera out for a spin. Here's some shots I took of the Augustana Chapel in Boise. This is where Immanuel Lutheran Church met before they built the newer, larger building they're in now next door. I used to love to just stand inside this building and imagine what it was like in the early 1900's when the building was new and Boise was much smaller. Construction was started in May of 1908 and was finally completed and dedicated in September of 1915. I used to go knock on the cornerstone and imagine what important stuff they may have put in there.

If you ever find yourself in Boise, head to the corner of 7th and Fort Streets and see it for yourself. It hasn't changed much over the nearly 100 years its been standing.

Its not often that God brings along a friend who becomes more like a brother. Jason is that kind of friend for me. Whether its taking our Miata's out on the back roads to tear it up a bit, watching LOST every Thursday night at 9pm, owning a small business together, starting a non-profit ministry together, looking to see if one or the other has forgotten to take their trash cans out Sunday night, to just sitting at our Coffee Bar and surfing YouTube after hours... I appreciate having him as a great friend who I can count on just being around. Of course, living across the street makes that even more convenient! You're a great encourager, Captain! Enjoy the ride as you Sail into your 37th year!

Happy birthday my good man! You may not have much hair left, but at least you'll NEVER have to worry about coloring out the gray! See ya at 9pm tomorrow for Lost!

Oh man... Spring and warm weather can't get here soon enough!!! Recently, we had a warm weekend so my buddy Jason and I washed up our Miata's and took them out... even posing them for a few photos.

As long as the temperature is above 55 degrees with sunshine, you'll find the top down everytime!

Spring MUST be around the corner... this weekend is Daylight Savings Time, so don't forget to SPRING AHEAD one hour when you go to bed Saturday night. If you forget, you'll be an hour late for church!

Vacation Digest

Vacation is almost over... for me. Vacation ended yesterday for the kids, but I knew that I'd need a "Disney Detox" day so here I am at home catching up on a number of things. The blog is one of the them.

Vacations are always fun to anticipate, fun to go on, and fun to be finished with. I don't think we would have done one more day as we were all just pooped out after the week. I mentioned in yesterdays post that there was good, and bad. We arrived late Saturday night with plans on hitting Epcot Sunday before checking in to the condo. Well... we got as far as this McDonalds parking lot. Megan suddenly felt sick, and threw up in the back seat of this brand new 4-Runner! It became the Toyota Barfmobile.

She assured us later that she felt ALL BETTER and really wanted to go to Epcot... so off we went. We got to Epcot and soon after, Megan was sick again... and we spent all of about 30 minutes at Epcot and called it a day. Good thing, too... Emily started throwing up that evening!

By Tuesday, SHAUNA was sick, and ended up going back to condo while I had a fun day... just me and my girls.

The only other bummer on the trip was the weather on Tuesday when tornado watches were issued throughout the area. While Shauna was sick in bed, she watched TV and kept me up to date on the weather. It moved in fast and by the time we were running for the car, the rain was SO HARD we were soaked all the way through... as if we had stood in our bathroom shower for 5 minutes!

Okay... enough of the "bad". The fun we had included having our friends the Cordova's from Boise meet us at Disney for the day on Tuesday. WHAT A BLAST! A former employee of ours from our coffee shop has been interning at Disney, so she met up with us on Saturday and spent the afternoon with us (Thanks Andrea!). Also, with the weather being just slightly less than ideal, the crowds were non-existant so there was virtually no waiting! Many times we'd just stay on the ride and do it again! The kids got to meet many of their favorite charters. We swam at the resort. We never got up super early. We just vacationed!

Here, Megan is being certified "Princess Of The Day" at Disney. She was able to pull the sword out of the stone... both big sisters were unable to. She felt pretty special!

Wednesday, the high temp was only 60, so I took the opportunity to sport my Boise State BLUE!

Another highlight was going to "The Holy Land Experience". http://www.theholylandexperience.com/ There we saw reinactments of Jesus' minitries, learned about the Dead Sea scrolls, and also witnessed the death and resurrection of Jesus. If you're ever in Orlando... GO!

HOME AGAIN!

Well, obviously I didn't have internet available, and I was too lazy to go down to the McDonalds that offered free WiFi. C'mon, I was on vacation! It was an unforgetable week for good and bad... thankfully mostly GOOD! I'll try to get caught up Monday as I'm dead tired now. We had to wake up at 12:30am Portland time to catch our flight out of Florida.

The vacation has begun!!! We made it to Orlando late last night... and boy did the jetlag hit hard! Three hour time difference from home and Shauna, Krista and I were all watching TV till after 2am. It's also muggy here and AC unit was SUPER loud and kept waking me up... but now that the sun is up, I'm energized to begin the big family vacation! Today will be Epcot! We also will arrive at the condo which will be WAY more roomy than the little hotel room we stayed in last night. Hopefully there will be wireless there too so we can stay connected...

If you've read through my entries about my kids, you'll know that Emily's FAVORITE artist of all time is Toby Mac. Well... Toby was in town this past Friday and Emily couldn't go. She's been having ear issues and now loud noises can really make her ear hurt. Toby is certainly not known for his quiet shows, so Emily was forced to miss it. I, on the other hand, WAS able to go... well, actually, my radio station SPONSORED it so I really couldn't miss it, now could I? :-) The concert was the "Boomin' Beyond Measure" tour with Jeremy Camp and Matthew West. Since Emily couldn't make the show, I had Toby pose with a note at dinner.

Thanks Toby... you brightened a girl's day!

A Packed Birthday Weekend!

Shauna's dad (David) recently celebrated a birthday, and Shauna will celebrate her's in a couple weeks... so on the weekend we traveled to Boise for yet another birthday, we combined Shauna and David's birthday celebrations into one cake!

A Day In The Life Of ... MOM!

It just doesn't seem like 30 years could have passed since we surprised Mom on her 40th birthday! But 30 years HAVE passed and on February 9th my sweet Mom celebrated her 70th. We all gathered in Boise to celebrate. There was a fair amount of food, drink, laughter and fellowship. We are blessed beyond words to have been able to spend the weekend with her and our Boise family.

Pretty awesome to see mom show up to the party in the dress she wore on the day Shauna and I got married!

One of the highlights was listening to Uncle Art (Mom's older brother) read emails from family in Germany who sent their birthday greetings. His style of reading and storytelling leaves Garrison Keillor in the dust.

Dad's mission... the birthday cake to end all birthday cakes...Mission ACCOMPLISHED!

I don't know why... but for some silly reason Oregon still thinks 65 MPH is fast enough! Why? I love crossing the state border into Idaho where highway speeds are 75 MPH.

And hey... you NEVER see trucks actually going 55MPH!

SUPER TUESDAY!!!

While walking down the street one day a US senator is tragically hit by a truck
and dies.

His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.

"Welcome to heaven," says St. Peter. "Before you settle in, it seems there is a
problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not
sure what to do with you."

"No problem, just let me in," says the man.

"Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from higher up. What we'll do is have you
spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend
eternity."

"Really, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven," says the senator.

"I'm sorry, but we have our rules."

And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down,
down to hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf
course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his
friends and other politicians who had worked with him.

Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his
hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the
expense of the people.

They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and
champagne.

Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who has a good time
dancing and telling jokes. They are having such a good time that before he
realizes it, it is time to go.

Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises...

The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens on heaven where St. Peter is
waiting for him.

"Now it's time to visit heaven."

So, 24 hours pass with the senator joining a group of contented souls moving
from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and,
before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.

"Well, then, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your
eternity."

The senator reflects for a minute, then he answers: "Well, I would never have
said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better
off in hell."

So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.

Now the doors of the elevator open and he's in the middle of a barren land
covered with waste and garbage.

He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in
black bags as more trash falls from above.

The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulder. "I don't
understand," stammers the senator. "Yesterday I was here and there was a golf
course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced
and had a great time. Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my
friends look miserable. What happened?"

The devil looks at him, smiles and says, "Yesterday we were campaigning......
Today you voted ."

After 18 years...

I remember knowing couples at church who had been married for 15+ years and compared to the 2 or 3 years Shauna and I had been married, that seemed SO far away. January we celebrated anniversary #18! Time has certainly gone by quickly. In some respects living in our beautiful little home in Boise on Siesta Way next door to Brian and Linda seems only yesterday... but last time we drove by it felt like we'd been gone a long time.

So for our anniversary, we left for a long weekend at the coast and stayed at our favorite spot in Cannon Beach, the Tolovana Inn. A stormy weekend for sure! The ocean waves were literally crashing just below our balcony! But it was fun to just get away... something we probably don't do enough of. Just hanging out together made the perfect weekend. On the way home, we hit a HUGE snow storm (VERY unusual for the coast!) and the highway was soon covered in snow. It reminded us so much of our years in Idaho. So did the moment when we stopped to help a poor guy and his dog get unstuck from the snow bank he spun his truck into! It reminded me of the times others helped to get my old 1966 Datsun pick-up unstuck from time to time... minus the dog.

This is where we like to call home as often as possible!

Well, it's official. Punxsutawney Phil did indeed see his shadow today and has forecast 6 more weeks of winter. To prove good old "P-Phil" right, I snapped these pics just moments ago! The snow is coming down hard... the most we've had in our hood all year. Mom's happy its a Saturday to see me HOME to enjoy it, and also that its not coming on a day that would cause yet another school closure. I best be gettin' off the computer to go watch the neighborhood come to life with children. As I look out the window, Megan is on her back making snow angels... IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET! Don't worry, our street gets VERY little traffic. :-)

Beyond Blessed

I hit my 40th birthday last year. The hair has a new natural tint, the facial hair is turning silver, but who cares? When I look at the world around me and the people I've met along the way, I consider my great marriage, 3 awesome kids, a healthy life and a God who loves me in spite of myself... it doesn't get much better.

I don't know how she does it, but this woman is a wife, a mom, a house cleaner, cook, and helps run our coffee house all at the same time. Putting up with me for the past 18+ years should fetch her some great reward, for sure. Tonight she and Krista are having a fun night shopping at the Lloyd Center Mall in Portland. Hmmm... and today was payday. Coincidence? I think not.

We had a blast at Shauna's 20 year reunion last year. Here she is with Debbie who she grew up with since grade school, who was also a bridesmaid in our wedding, and now lives close by us here in Oregon. It was said they were inseperable in school and now 500 miles from Boise, they're still close... and not just in proximity!

Sometimes you just need a break, right? No husband, no kids, plus two awesome girlfriends from Boise and one mai tai... sounds like the ultimate break to me! Um honey? Forget the sunblock again???

Megan and I have special connection... she and I both have the distinction of being the clowns in the family. (For sake of clarity, my Uncle Tim is a professional clown www.timotheclown.com and we by no means hold our clowning to the same standard. There's one TRUE clown in the family... we're mini-clowns without the make-up!) She made me laugh last weekend when we were trying to get the whole house clean before MOM arrived home from a weekend trip to Boise. I told her, "Megan, I just want you to focus on getting your room clean." She came back a little while later and was a bit frustrated. "Dad, I'm trying to get my room clean, but I just can't focus! I don't know how to focus. So I'm having a hard time cleaning my room. How do you focus, anyway?"

Emily... The Nashville Connection

This April, it will be 11 years that I became a member of The Gospel Music Association. It was also then that I'd be attending my first convention in Nashville. Emily delayed that trip! She was two weeks past due arriving to this world and I had to blow off the trip. Now almost every year I have to miss her birthday because of my yearly trip to Nashville to hang with Christian Music's brightest stars and my fellow radio broadcasters. I was able to make it up to Emily last year, though. I was having dinner with her favorite artist of all time, Toby Mac, when I asked if he wouldn't mind calling Emily to wish her Happy Birthday. You just can't buy your daughter a gift like that at Toys 'R Us! I was the coolest dad in the hood for at least 2 whole weeks!
